Matching the remedy with the right vaccine

While taking the CEASE certification course in Toronto we learned how important it is to fine out exactly which vaccines and medications a child or parent has received. I did not realize that the vaccine record booklet given to the parents does not contain some crucial information about the vaccines given. For example the parents booklet may state that the child had D, T, aP, IPV, Hib, Hep-B, Pneu-C-7 and Men-C at 2 months (Diphteria, Tetanus, a-cellular Pertussis, Hemophilus Influenza-B, Pnemoccus C7, Mengingococcus). However, there are different combination vaccines licensed in Canada which contain variations of several of the above in one shot:

Pediatrix – D/T/aP/Hep B/IPV

Acatel/Infanrix – D/T/aP/HiB

Quadracel/Infanrix/IPV – D/T/aP/IPV

Infanrix-Hexa – D/T/aP/Hep B/IPV, HiB

Pentacel/Pediacel/Infanrix-IPV/Hib – D/T/aP/IPV/HiB

Confused yet? The doctor or health nurse who gave the shot will have a document called a ‘Vaccine Administration Record’ which shows the actua name of the vaccine given. The homeopathic remedies needed to detoxify the specific vaccine has to be made from that vaccine, so Quadracel will be different than Pentacel etc. This is important. You will need to obtain this exact document. It will also give the manufacturer’s name, the batch number, location of the shot etc.

CEASE Therapy certification in Toronto, June 22-24

I’m happy to share the news that I will be participating in an intensive, three-day certification course on CEASE Therapy offered in Toronto June 22-24, 2012. This is the first CEASE Therapy course held in Canada. It is for advanced homeopathic practitioners.

I really look forward to gaining more knowledge and proficiency in this promising method. I am already seeing some good results in my practice. The education assitant of one of my young autistic patients, a ten-year-old, high functioning boy, noticed much better attention, better co-operation and reduced stimming after only a month of treatment. She has been working with this boy for 1.5 years and did not know that he was being treated by me.

We first did an MMR detox with no noticeable changes, then we did the DTaPIPV (Five-in-one), with noticable improvements. He was so much calmer in my office, too. There had been a fairly dramatic increase in his eczema, which was troubling the mother. I warned the parents not to use any steroid creams on it, as this was an expected healing reaction. If, in a case like this, steroids were being used to suppress the eczema, it is almost guaranteed that the autistic symptoms would recur.

Acetaminophen (Tylenol) linked to Autism?

In the May 2008 issue of the journal Autism, Schultz et al reported an association between autism and acetaminophen (paracetamol, Tylenol) given children for fever, pain, and other adverse reactions to the MMR vaccine. Children given acetaminophen after the MMR vaccine were significantly more likely to become autistic than children given ibuprofen.

The MMR vaccine has long been suspected of provoking autism, especially by parents who report that their seemingly normal child regressed after receiving the vaccine. Could it be, however, that it is not the vaccine, or at least not solely it, but acetaminopehn given for any subsequent fever or pain?

Autism six times more likely after use of Acetaminophen after MMR

In Schultze’s study, children ages 1-5years with autism were eight times more likely to have gotten sick after the MMR vaccine, and were six times more likely to have taken acetaminophen after the vaccine.

In the 80s, the use of aspirin in children was replaced by acetaminophen after aspirin was implicated in causing Reye’s syndrome (rash, vomiting, liver and potentially brain damage). It has since been shown that aspirin does not cause Reye’s syndrome.

Synchronicity of Acetaminophen and the Autism Epidemic

The most compelling evidence linking acetaminophen use and autism is their rapid synchronous rise in recent decades. Of course, the reader should keep in mind that the number of vaccines as well as the use of other medications in children, such as antibiotics, have also dramatically increased since then. The incidence of autism has risen 10-fold since the early 1980. Until 1980, apparently 50-60 % of autistic children were abnormal from birth and 40-50% regressed into autism at approximately 18 months.

All this began to change around 1980, with the onset at 18 months skyrocketing to ten times that of 1980 by the year 2002 (Pangborn, Autism Research Institute, 2002), based on thousands of cases collected the the ARI since the 1960s.

In 1977 the Food and Drug Administration warned that acetaminophen could damage the liver. California children born in 1977 were less likely to be diagnosed with autism than children born in previous years.

Children’s Tylenol Recall May 2010

In May of 2010 Tylenol and around 40 varieties of over-the-counter cold medicines for children by Johnson and Johnson were recalled in the U.S. and 11 other countries. The Food and Drug Administration found out that the ingredients used were contaminated with bacteria.

The report that the FDA issued said that inspectors found thick dust, grime and contaminated ingredients at the J&J plant that produces children’s Tylenol and dozens of other products recalled last week. Then, some of the products may contain a higher concentration of active ingredients than is specified on the label.

It will be interesting to see if autism rates drop again in association with that recall.

Infant’s Tylenol 3x more concentrated than Children’s Tylenol

Infant’s Tylenol is three times more concentrated than children’s Tylenol, plus many children’s cold remedies containg acetaminophen. Acetaminophen overdose in young children is not uncommon. The liver detoxifies acetaminophen through sulfation as well as neutraliztion with glutathione. Acetaminophen depletes the liver’s supplies of sulfate and glutathione, leaving it less able to detoxify and excrete any number of harmful substances.

Clinical signs of liver disease – including fever and abdominal pain – are often treated with acetaminophen even though the American Academy of Pediatrics has warned against this. Many cases  of severe liver poisoning in childern have been attributed to cumulative toxicity from repeated doses of acetaminophen rather than from a single, massive overdose.

Abnormal Sulfate Metabolism in Children with Autism

Studies show that sulfate metabolism in children autism is commonly impaired which may explain why many autistic children are aggravated by foods high phenolic amines (e.g. dopamine and serotonin) which depend on sulfate for excretion. These foods include wheat, corn, sugar, apples, bananas, chocolate, cheese and other dairy products.

The liver requires the amino acid cystein to create sulfates. Numerous studies have shown low levels of cysteine in children with autism.

Acetaminophen use in Mothers of Autistic Children

Mothers of autistic children commonly suffer more bacterial and viral infections and fevers during pregnancy, for which they commonly take acetaminophen. It is possible that this may cause their babies to be born cysteine deficient.

As they are already compromised, other environmental factors may affect them more, again, setting the stage for autism.

What can Parents do?

Autistic children lack the capacity to properly metabolize and excrete toxins of all kinds. One of the most effective countermeasures may be to increase their sulfur intake, for example via magnesium sulfate (Epsom salts) in bath water and/or small doses in juice. Other good sources of natural sulfur are cabbage, onions, garlic, whey protein, a high protein diet and MSM supplements.

What about treating Fevers?

Parents can learn to treat their children’s fevers with natural methods. First of all, a fever is a normal and appropriate response of the organism to infection and therefor a positive event. Of course, a fever of 104 degrees Fahrenheit or more can be dangerous and should be controlled. Cold wet towels applied to the calves are a time-tested home measure. There are a number of homeopathic remedies available to treat fevers in infants and children safely and effectively. They include Aconite, Belladonna and Ferrum phos.

I give seminars for parents on how to treat colds, flus and other common ailments in children. You can learn how to use natural remedies safely and effectively. I’m here to help you take your family’s health into your own hands. You can avoid dangerous and unnessary drugs which may harm your children.

Additionally, using the priniciples of CEASE Therapy, the homeopathic use of acetaminophen may help to rebalance the child’s liver function.

CEASE Therapy

What is CEASE Therapy?

Homeopathy treats children as individuals

CEASE stands for Complete Elimination of Autism Spectrum Expression. It is an integrated method of natural treatment pioneered by Dr. Tinus Smits, a Dutch medical doctor and homeopath.

After seeing over 300 cases of children with autism with all levels of severity Dr. Smits found that autism is the result of an accumulation of different toxic factors which affect the brain.

Exposure to toxic factors

These toxic factors can include, but are not limited to, exposure to medical drugs such as antibiotics, anaesthetics, ie for ear tubes, nasal sprays and inhalers, vaccinations, exposure to heavy metals, bacterial and viral infections, recreational drugs, alcohol, tobacco and plastics from baby bottles. The brain of the developing fetus as well as during the first two years of life is exquisitely sensitive to these toxic stressors.

In addtion, parental exposure to any of the above can cause changes in the epigenetic make-up which can be passed along to the future children.

Nutrition and vaccinations

Add to this insufficient nutrition with too much sugar, hydrogenated fats and food deficiencies, insufficient water supply, use of microwave oven and various other environmental factors, perhaps pesticides. When at 18 months of age the MMR, DPT and Meningococcal vaccinations are administered (in Canada), stress levels reach a breaking point whereby the brain gets locked or enters a sort of standby mode. Important functions of the cerebral cortex shut down.

CEASE therapy involves the systematic administration of those possible toxic factors in homeopathic form to clear the energetic imbalances caused by them, in other words, it is possible to administer the homeopathically prepared vaccines, medications etc safely and effectively to help the child. This is known as isotherapy.

Isotherapy

Isotherapy is the use of homeopathic preparations made from vaccines, infections and medications which may have caused illness. By using these remedies, toxic imprints from those substances may be eliminated from the organism. We have isodes made from all the different vaccines, including DPT-THib, MMR, varicella, Hepatitis A and B etc, and many medications, including antibiotics, oxytocin and others. The remedies are given in a number of different potencies to totally eliminate the imprints from the child’s system. Isotherapy is the cornerstone of CEASE therapy.

Identification of cause as well as treatment

Identifying the causes of autismThe beauty of this therapy is that it not only treats the child but can also help to identify causative factors. If a child responds to the homeopathic MMR remedy, for example, this is what may have caused the autism in that particular child. Another child may have not reaction to MMR, but may benefit from homeopathic Rhogam, if the mother was Rhesus factor negative and received a Rhogam shot during the pregnancy.

Yet another child may improve from the administration of a homeopathic preparation of mononucleosis if the mother had a severe case of mono before conceiving. Most of the time a child responds to more than one remedy, demonstrating that the autism was caused by a combination of factors.

Classical homeopathy

Classical homeopathy is homeopathy which is prescribed specifically for the deep constitution of the individual. Classical homoepathy is the gold standard of homeopathic treatment, with the goal of finding a single, very precisely indicated remedy for the person. It can be dramatically effective, but it can difficult to find just the perfect remedy. It takes many years of intense study and practice to become competent as a classical homeopath. Classical homeopathy is part of CEASE therapy, which is why only qualified homeopaths should practice this method. I myself have been practicing as a classical homeopath for over 20 years.

Inspiring homeopathy

Dr. Tinus Smits also developed another new method of using homeopathy, which he called ‘Inspiring Homeoapthy.’ Inspiring Homeopathy is the use of specific homeopathic remedies to treat universal layers of being, including remedies for incarnation problems, old traumas, lack of self-confidence, guilt and duality, the last obstacle to our unification with our higher self or soul. In totality there are seven universal layers.

At the individual layer everybody needs his individual remedy, but once arrived in the universal layers only a few remedies need to be used to resolve their problems and to help them to evolve to deeper awareness and more stability in both physical and emotional, mental and spiritual health. For myself this concept is very beautiful and opens up many new and higher avenues for treatment.

New Hope for Autism

Canadian children drugged in record numbers;

Atypical antipsychotics lead to complications

5000 kids a year are taking antipsychotic medications in BC alone according to a recent article published in Postmedia News and Vancouver Sun.

So many Canadian children are taking the drugs known as atypical antipsychotics that doctors are being asked to watch for major complications – including dramatic weight gain, tremors and abnormal face and jaw movements.

Once reserved for schizophrenia and mania in adults, one antipsychotic drug alone, risperidone, was recommended by Canadian-office-based doctors for children 17 and younger a total of 340,670 times in 2010 – a near doubling since 2006 – according to data provided to Postmedia News from prescription drug tracking firm IMS Brogan.

In fact, there are so many concerns with these meds that the world’s first clinic to help children cope with side effects of these medications was openend at BC Children’s Hospital in April.
